Quick & Easy - Everyday Curls Tutorial

Hello Lovelies! Today I'm bringing you a quick and easy "how to" video on my everyday curls!

Here is what you're going to need:

  1. Hair tie (elastic, rubber band or clip)
  2. Curling iron (clip or clipless)
  3. Hair Brush
  4. Heat Protectant
  5. Hair Spray
Step 1: Brush all of your hair out and apply heat protector to the portions that will touch the curling iron. Then bring all of your hair into a high pony tail. At this time you will also want to preheat your curling iron to whatever heat is best or your hair type. I use 430 degrees.

Step 2: Separate your ponytail in half and clip one half away so you're working with a  more manageable section of hair.

Step 3: Section your hair again into three equal parts and starting from the middle of the hair shaft wrap your hair around the curling iron.
*Even if you have a clip curling iron you will be using it as if it were clipless.

Step 4: Hold each section of hair on the iron for 10 to 20 seconds depending on how course and thick your hair is. Make sure if you have fine or damaged hair that you are careful when applying heat.

Step: 5: Once you release your hair from the curling iron be sure to hold it in your hand for a few seconds to help the curl lock into place. Hold the curled section until you no longer feel any heat coming from the curl and then gently release it.

Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 until with the other two sections from that half of the ponytail.

Step 7: Release the other half of your ponytail and section it into three equal parts and repeat steps 4 and 5 until you have six total sections of hair curled.

Step 8: Before you play with your curls be sure to apply hair spray to again help the curls keep their shape for longer.

Step 9: Take down your pony tail and gently run your fingers through your hair if you'd like to loosen up any of the curls and finger comb your hair into the style you desire.

Step 10: Once again spray your hair with hairspray and you're done.

Quick and easy curls that should take you less than 10 minutes in the morning. It's a very pulled together look that takes very little time and effort. I hope you like this hair tutorial and try it out for yourself!

Kat Von D - Studded Kiss Lipstick Set Review and Giveaway

Hi Dolls! Today I'm reviewing for you the Kat Von D Studded Kiss Lipstick Set from Sephora. This set was released just in time for the holiday's and contains mini versions of the full size lipsticks of the same name. I wanted to end my holiday giveaway with another great set so if you'd like to a chance to subscribe and win this set please see the video at the end of the blog to subscribe, comment and share for your chance to win!

I love that this kit was put together so that beauty lovers could sample an entire array of lipsticks for $39.00 is amazing. The full size version of these lipsticks retail for $21.00 each so being able to try these before committing to the full size is a major pro in buying this set.

If you are interested in buying one of these lipstick you can do so by clicking on the link below:

Studded Kiss Lipsticks at Sephora

Now onto what I thought of this product. First of all the set comes with nine shades which is great considering the full line contains 30 shades. So for the price you are able to sample a third of the collection. The shades chosen are just different enough to give you a great deal of variety and the finishes do lean toward the matte so you have the option of wearing it as it or topping it with a gloss.

The formulation of the lipsticks are incredible. The color pay off is spot on. What you see in the tube is what you get on your lips with the exception of Wonderchilde which is a iridescent neon lilac and swatches a bit sheer compared to the rest of the set.

When swatching color after color were rich saturated and felt comfortable on the skin. You would expect some dryness with a matte finish but that was not the case. The lipstick applied like butter and had just the right amount of slip to help them glide on easily and with two swipes the color was opaque. The product itself has a buttery feel to it and once dried the lipstick felt light weight and velvety.

The Sephora site claims that these lipsticks last for 10 hour wear and although the color adheres good to the lips I did not have luck with getting it to remain on my lips for 10 hours without lining my lips and reapplying after meals. This is not to say the lipsticks don't have great staying power, but as with any lipstick the color stains the lips to help with the appearance of color after the first application wears down and this is no different. I must say that the product does hold up well to drinking and did not transfer overly much.

Below are pictures of the lipstick up close and the swatches I did on my forearm.

From Left to Right: Wonderchilde, Sexer, Agatha, Bachelorette, Countess, Lovecraft, Adora, Motorhead, and Hexagram

If you would like  to see these lipsticks swatched in person please watch the video below.

Jingle Bell Rock Tag

Hi Lovelies! I finally got a chance to watch a few of my favorite YouTubers and came across JuicePouceGirl's Jingle Bell Rock Tag. She really came up with a great set of Holiday inspired questions that I loved watching her answer.

The questions are below along with my answers. I would really love for you guys to answer these questions too so if you could please watch my video and leave me a video response or a comment I'd be so happy!

1) Is this your favorite time of year? Why or why not.
Yes! I love this time of year. The holidays, the family, and the food are in abundance! I am sure to see the people I love and get some time off of work to spend with them. This is the best time of year!
2) What is your favorite holiday drink?

Hot Cocoa

3) What holiday movie gets you in the holiday spirit?

The Classics like White Christmas or Miracle on 34th St or Love Actually.4) What is your subscriber goal by the end of the year?
I don't really have a goal for the end of the year since my channel is so new but it'd be great to get to 400 subbies by the end of the year.5) Would you rather be ice skating or watching a holiday movie with your favorite holiday drink?
Ice Skating! It sounds like so much fun and even though I suck at it I still have fun falling.6) Do you like the movie Frozen? Why or why not.
Yes! I sing the songs all of the time and love the message!7) If you have a tree is it real or fake?
REAL! The smell of our tree is what kicks off the Christmas season for me.8) What’s your favorite holiday accessory?
Hats and scarves.

9) Do you prefer cold or warmer weather?
Cold! You can only take off so many pieces of clothes when you're hot  but you can layer like crazy when you're cold and also hide a little weight with cute sweaters!10) What is your favorite holiday fragrance?
I don't wear perfume but I love the smell of pine trees and warm spices.11) What is your favorite holiday sweater?
I picked it up from Khols and it's the Lauren Conrad Snowflake sweater.

12) What is your favorite holiday polish?

It's my JulieG Nail Polish in the shade My Private Palace

13) What is your favorite way to spread holiday cheer?

Holiday cards and just being more helpful. I believe in random acts of kindness and this time of year people really start focusing on gifts and what they'll be getting or giving their family and friends. I like to take a minute and give an extra big tip or hold the door for people rather than just rushing around frantic.14) Who should answer these questions next?
I tag the following people:

Too Faced Everything Nice Holiday Set - First Impression Review & Giveaway

Are you ready for Mai Holiday Giveaway #2? If so you might want to see exactly what you'll be winning if you're the lucky subscriber selected. And even if you are fortunate this time around you can still pick up this great holiday set at your nearest Sephora or online at Sephora.com.

So let's take a closer look at what comes in the Too Faced Everything Nice Holiday Gift Set.

First let's talk about this deluxe sample size Better Than Sex Mascara. I am very dedicated to the mascara's I like since my lashes tend to grow stick straight and pointing to the ground. I was very skeptical that I would enjoy this mascara because it is not waterproof which I typically need to hold any curl I can put into my lashes and the brush seemed far too dense to brush through my lashes.

I was soooooo wrong! This mascara is amazing and it lives up to all of the hyped surrounding it. This brush really grabs each lash and leaves behind a nice coating of mascara. I can feel the grab each time I pass the brush through my lashes. Also, the formulation is a nice thick consistency which really builds up the look of my lashes at their base. When I'm wearing just this mascara my lashes look double their normal thickness. Lengthening is not the strong suit of this mascara but normally if I'm looking for length I'm throwing on a pair of false lashes. I do wish this mascara came in a waterproof formula since I do have eyes that tear quite a bit and I also wear contacts so it would help.

If you have a chance to try this mascara I HIGHLY recommend it.

Next up in the set you will find a good size glitter clutch.

This clutch is a nice edition to my bag collection and will probably be used as a makeup or travel bag. I say this because even though I like the look, the material it's made of , and the color...I don't usually go out on the town with something that is stamped with the cosmetic company's name. I did a review of the Too Faced Sugar and Spice palette released exclusively for Ulta and was really impressed that the gold clutch they gave with that set did not have any branding stamped on it.

The clutch is thin and could hold a phone, wallet, lip gloss and a few more small items without looking big and bulky. The inside is lined with a matching fuchsia nylon material so if you did use it for makeup and spilled something you could easily clean it up. All and all it's a cute little addition to this holiday set and will come in handy when travelling.

Finally let's look at this palette!

This set comes with 20 eye shadows with a great variety of colors and finishes. Also include are two blushes, a bronzer, a highlighter, three travel sized brushes and an instructional insert that gives you ideas on what looks can be achieved with this palette.

The brushes are your typical included with gift brush set. They are small, flat and dense. There is a flat shader brush, an angled shader brush and a flat face brush. I believe I could use the two small eye brushes if I were in a pinch, but the face brush looks like something that comes with a drug store powder or blush. Don't get me wrong...the brushes feel really soft and are made well but I don't see myself reaching for these on a regular basis to put on my makeup.

From left to right , top to bottom: Sweet Pink, Papa Don't Peach, Chocolate Soleil, Inner Light

The blushes are really quite nice. I love that they are super bright and highly pigmented colors. When swatching these colors with my fingers I found that it didn't take much pressure to pick up quite a bit of product. The first color Sweet Pink is a bright bubble gum pink and will add a healthy glow to any skin tone. The second blush color Papa Don't Peach is a great neutral warm coral. This is a color I tend to lean towards. It's just a warm natural flush.

The bronzer included with the set unfortunately is not deep enough to be used as a bronzer by me. I found that the matte finish and cool brown tone would have been a very flattering bronzer had it been a few shades darker. But when I swatched this color it almost disappeared into my skin. I won't be wasting this shade though...it's going to make a great transition color and the amount given will make sure that I won't be running out for awhile.

Finally the highlighter that comes with this set is Inner Light. This highlighter is so amazing! When swatched it leaves behind the slightest of gold sheen's but it is not frosty or glittery at all. The texture is like butter and it smoothes into the skin and not onto the skin. It really becomes part of your skin and gives you a natural sun kissed glow.

Now onto the shadows...

There are 20 shadows with a row for everyone out there. Let's start with the top row...

Left to Right: Turtle Dove, Dream On, After Hours, Fawned of You, Knockout
This is the neutral row. There are matte shadows, a glittery shadow and a satin shadow. This row was a bit chalky to me and had more fall out than the rest of the palette. I really have to play with these in order to see if the texture and fall out were due to using my fingers with these shadows or if the matte colors in this row are really that dry. I did find that After Hours and Knockout were my favorite of this row...not only because they showed up the best on my skin tone but they also had the best texture and feel out of the options in this row.

From Top to Bottom: Turtle Dove, Dream On, After Hours, Fawned of You, Knockout
Onto the second row:

From Left to Right: Paper Roses. Kindness is Free Mauvelous, Be You, Secret Lovers
This row has a beautiful selection of pinks and mauve colors. Again you have a good mixture of two matte shadows, two satin shadows and one glittery shadow. The colors in this row are very soft and yet bright. The textures of the shadows on this row are soft and silky. There are so many options for looks on this row given that you are provided with such different hues. So if you want natural you can have it and if you want dark and smoky you can have that as well.

From Top to Bottom: Paper Roses. Kindness is Free Mauvelous, Be You, Secret Lover
The third row has all of these great metallic shadows:

From Left to Right: Heaven Shiny Happy, Honey Pot, Don't Settle,Girly
Again you have a great selection from light to dark and if you had just these shadows alone you'd be blown away. With each row the shadows get more creamy in texture and swatch so much easier. This set of metallic shadows gives you a full range of golds. From an antique gold shade to a duo chrome teal and brick red this row has shadows that can be used on their own to give you a quick and multi-dimensional look.

From Top to Bottom: Heaven Shiny Happy, Honey Pot, Don't Settle,Girly
The final row has all of those pops of color you'd expect from a holiday palette...

From Left to Right: Totally Fetch, Live it Up, Too Glam, Head Over Heels, Chocolate Moon
You will find the brightest and boldest shades in this palette in this bottom row. This row contains your jewel tone colors.

From Left to Right: Totally Fetch, Live it Up, Too Glam, Head Over Heels, Chocolate Moon
I was really pleased with the selection in this row and I think it's going to be my go to row for my holiday looks. I think my favorite is Too Glam. It's a super saturated teal shadow that is going to look great smoked out for my upcoming work Christmas party. Although the shadows look glittery in the palette, they actually come off with a satin finish and I experienced no fall out with these shades.

These twenty shadows really give you a full range of color options and finishes to play with. If you're someone who has no palettes at all and can spare the $56 dollars for this limited edition palette I would highly recommend it. The same goes for if you are looking to buy a great gift for the makeup lover in your life. This palette gives you everything you need aside from foundation and lipstick.

Memebox Unboxing: Global Box #16

The last Memebox I opened was created in collaboration with Samantha Schuerman and it contained amazing products! This time I'm bringing you a Meme Global Box. This is how I began with Memebox. I started purchasing "subscription" boxes from them when all they sold were numbered boxes. If you didn't act quickly enough the boxes would sell out and you had to wait until the next box was made available for sale.

I was lucky enough to purchase boxes 11 through 16 at a discounted rate that included shipping. I thought it was suck a steal. Well this is the last of that batch and I am excited to share it's contents with you...

1. RiRe Style Black Head Brush Cleanser and Skinny Black Head Closing Serum [40ml+20ml]
The full size products retail for $18

I was very happy to see that these products were full sized. According to the packaging this cleanser contains black rice, black beans, and black sesame. It removes all oil, dirt, blackheads, whiteheads, and dead skin cells from your skin. The cleanser is topped with a unique brush tip applicator which is to clean your face.

When I tested this product I found that it did leave my face feeling very clean. However I have dry skin so I was left with a very dry and tight feeling after a couple of minutes. Also the brush tip applicator is about the size of a nickel and it can take awhile to use it during the face washing process. I will be sticking to my clarisonic. Once I topped my skin with the Serum I did get some relief from the dryness the cleanser caused but I did need to follow it up with a super hydrating moisturizer.

I think this cleanser would be great for someone with oily skin.

2. Elizavecca Shrink Lifting R Pro 120ml
Full size product retails for $28

I was pleased to see that this too was a full size product. When I tested this product on camera I was over taken by the strong menthol smell and the fumes that accompanied the cream. When I applied it to my tired feet a few days later I found that it did really give them some relief, but then the smell and fumes got to me again. I suffer from Asthma so this is not a great product to have around unless my nose is stuffy. I think I will use this sparingly in a well ventilated area.

3. Hair + Velvet Nutri-Injection 12ml
Full size product retails for $5

This is a leave in hair treatment that comes in a single size package. I have not used this product yet as I'm waiting to use it on a trip I'll be taking to Montana shortly. I'll give you an update after I've used it.

4. Unni Recipe Vitamin Recharger Mist 130ml
Full size product retails for $15

Again the box contained a full size product. I was shocked! Not only are the products amazing but for the price I was so excited to see another full sized product.

This product is a facial mist and can be used before or after makeup application. It has a very clean and fresh scent to it and feels very hydrating.  I doesn't contain parabens, benzophenon, mineral oil, alcohol or artificial coloring. I would compare it to MAC's fix+. It's not meant to lock your makeup in place but more to feed your skin and add a layer of moisture back into it. It's a nice little refresher.

5. Mizon Snail Recovery Gel Cream 45ml
Full size product retails for $24

I know people who haven't experimented with Asian beauty products will cringe at the idea of applying a gel to their skin that consists snail mucus. Even the idea of spreading any kind of mucus on your skin probably makes you want to throw up...I felt the same way. However I vowed to keep an open mind when I signed up for these boxes since I knew that Asian beauty products never contained traditional ingredients. So I sucked it up knowing I would have to try unusual things.

This gel has practically no smell and when I applied it to my skin I found that it absorbed in super quickly. My skin felt so soft and supple after applying this product. I did follow it up with my usual moisturizer and my skin felt amazing for most of the day. I have very sensitive skin and I was waiting for that tell-tale burning sensation or redness to start up and I was very happy to say my skin didn't react at all. I'm going to continue using this product and will report back on whether I see any improvements to my skin or if I see any reactions after continued use.

6. Delskin Centella 90 Power Ampoule 30ml
Full size product retails for $14

This serum comes in a beautiful bottle that reminds me of old apothecary containers. The ampoule contains over 90% Centella Asiatica extracts and claims to sooth and repair the skin while being effective on sensitive skin. Especially those that suffer from reddened spots or blemishes. It's not a gel product but is much more liquidy than that. The instructions say that you should take a could of drops and apply to the skin twice a day. I founds that it would take more than two drops to cover my entire face but when I did I found my skin less tight and dry. It was a great feeling and I will have to continue to use it to see if the affects are long lasting.

The only issue I have with this product is that the same beautiful package is made of glass. This means I will NOT be travelling with it. If I find that I truly love it before I go on my winter holiday I will probably transfer some of the product into a small plastic container which is not that much of a hassle.

Final thoughts...
I could not believe that each and every one of the products contained in the Memebox Global #16 were FULL SIZE. This box retailed for $23. The prices for each of these tallied to a value of $104! That was the first thing that got me excited about this month's box. The second were the types of products. I was so glad that going into the winter months I received a number of products geared toward hydrating and protecting the skin. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't one cosmetic item, but that's the beauty of these boxes...you never know what you're going to get.

All and all I think this was a great box for the cost and that the items are high quality.

Christmas Nail Tutorial - Red and Gold - Viewer Requested

A couple of weeks ago I had a lovely subscriber request that I create a nail tutorial featuring the design below:

I found the design created by GlitterNailBitches on Pinterest and decided that rather than using the nail polishes exactly as they she did, I would find low cost alternatives by using the JulieG nail polish line.

Here are the polishes:

From Left to Right: JulieG - Jet Set Quick Dry Top Coat, White Orchid, Cleopatra's Cobra, Ornamental, Big Red Bow
The first step I took is to prep my nails with a good base coat. I chose my usual Beauty Secrets Ridge Filler Base Coat.

Next I painted each nail with its base color.

First paint your ring finger with White Orchid.

Next paint your middle finger with Ornamental.

Paint your remaining fingers with Big Red Bow.

Give that coat a bit of time to dry and then apply a second coat.

Next apply Cleopatra's Cobra over top of Ornamental on your middle finger.

In a small dish or on top of a piece of paper you will need to place small puddles of Ornamental and Big Red Bow.

Using a toothpick that was broken in half I used the large end to create large polka dots over top of the white base coat with the Big Red Bow polish. You will need to do the same with the gold Ornamental polish as well.

Next flip your toothpick over and use the small pointed end to create additional dots in various sizes.

Leave the polka dots to dry for a couple of minutes and then apply your fast drying top coat to lock in the design and keep the manicure looking shiny and new.

*If you do not leave the dots to dry for a few minutes the design will smear when you apply the top coat. If the dots you create are extra thick you will want to be sure to touch them lightly and check that they are dry before applying the top coat.

Here is the finished look:
